Slabs

Slab reinforcement

Bottom reinforcement spreads across the whole slab in two directions, and additional top bars go along the support lines. Long bars are split with lap splices.

Slab reinforcement plan

Slab reinforcement is drawn on the plan: two-way bottom bars in every span, additional top bars over beams and grid lines, and trimmer bars along slab edges and around openings. KNCad distributes the bars by span and labels each bar's length and spacing.

  • Two-way bottom reinforcement
  • Additional top support bars
  • Edge trimmer bars at slab openings
  • Top reinforcement in cantilever (balcony) slabs
  • Column head zones in flat slabs

The 12-meter rule

Rebar is usually supplied in 12-meter lengths. A longer bar can't be placed in one piece; it has to be split at a suitable point and the two pieces lapped over a sufficient length. KNCad automatically splits bars longer than 12 meters and shows the lap in the detail. For details, see our article on the 12-meter rule.

Schedule included

Slab reinforcement makes up a significant share of a project's total rebar weight. Every bar drawn on the plan goes into the bar schedule automatically.
